What do you think of Macbeth?

We’ve had some great comments so far from audience members on blogs, Facebook and our review section.

“Last night was Ace!”

“What a truly wonderful and well put together production.”

“Absolutely brilliant! The best and most innovative amateur production I’ve ever seen – gripped me from the first moment to the last. Well done guys and girls – you were all fantastic. And an incredible Breakfast Cat debut from the girl playing Lady McB. Great cast, great direction, great job!”

“An excellent adaptation to a contemporary setting whilst being faithful to the genius of Shakespeare”

“An outstanding take on Lady Macbeth”

“Some excellent comic relief was provided by fluid and explosive comedy from the Porter”

What did you like about the production? Are there things you think we should have done differently? Please post a comment in our reviews section and let us know what you think!

Macbeth on film

OK so Macbeth films might be getting banned in Thailand but why not show your support for Ing Kanjanavanit and freedom of artistic expression by watching and sharing Breakfast Cat’s Macbeth film:

This film was produced by Sarah Johnson with cinematography by Michael McKenna. We love it, thank you very much Sarah! You can check out Sarah’s website here. Ellie Dawes wrote the words. A massive thank you too to Michael Hall and the other brilliant and lovely friends of Breakfast Cat who got involved running around in hoodies, giving olde weather reports etc.

The moment you have been waiting for… you can book your tickets now!

Words cannot fully describe how excited we are about Macbeth. All of the actors leave rehearsals with a real buzz because it’s all just going so well. Everyone is really up to speed with their lines too, last night most of us were already off book for Acts 1 and 2!

So if you’re as excited as we are, why not do yourselves a favour and book your tickets right now? You could be in the front row! Tickets are just £9 for adults, £7 concessions and available here.

(Sorry we can’t link our specific booking page, once you have clicked on that link click on ‘Macbeth’ to find us.)

We’ve also got some secret plans being planned already for our theatre residency at Little Green Gathering this summer. Check out the production page for more info on that and get in touch if you want to be a part of it.

It’s all going on

Ellie here, just thought I’d post a little update on here to let you know about the exciting things Breakfast Cat are up to.

Firstly next week some of us will be performing a new script entitled High Flyer by Roberto Prestoni at Tiny Dog Production’s Theatre Breaks Festival at the Honor Oak, Forest Hill. For more information about this exciting event showcasing new playwrights from the local area, please visit http://www.tinydogproductions.com/#!upcoming-productions We are excited for this chance to see the work of other local groups and collaborate with new people, so if you are in the local area please do come and support the project!

In other exciting news, I was able to chat some more about our upcoming Macbeth production on London FM radio the other day (you can listen to the discussion on my blog.) Macbeth really is going to be great, I went to my first rehearsal yesterday to give Paul a hand assistant-directing the witches’ early scenes. Suzy, Sara and Tia are really excellent and probably the funniest Macbeth witches I have ever seen.

To promote the production I’ve also started a Twitter account, tweeting as my character the Thane of Ross. The idea I have is that the Thane of Ross is the character who basically crops up in the play to tell all the other characters what’s going on, so I reckon in our setting she’s the one on Twitter organising all the looting and keeping people in the loop. So if you’re on Twitter please follow the account @ThaneOfRoss. After the production I’ll most likely keep the account to be a general Breakfast Cat account, so it will be well worth adding it to your list to keep in touch with what we’re up to.

If you’ve visited the site looking for ways to get involved with the company, in a couple of months I’ll be looking for recruits to perform at The Little Green Gathering this summer. So if you fancy a bit of out of doors festival acting, get in touch! This should be a great way for new recruits to get to know the company and have a lot of fun in the process.

Id also like to plug one more thing, if you like experimental/performance art style theatre my oldest friend’s professional Bristol-based company Sedated By A Brick is coming to London to perform here. FREE tickets so well worth a peek.

Think that’s all the exciting news I have for now, enjoy!

Ellie xx

Breakfast Cat Theatre company donates to those affected by the riots in Croydon

We are excited to announce that Breakfast Cat’s recent Halloween Double bill was a sellout success and raised £480 for those affected by the riots in Croydon this summer.

Breakfast Cat split the money with £304.13 donated to charity Croydon Recovery, the amount needed for them to achieve their target of £2,500.

The remaining £175.87 was donated to Roy’s TV Shop on Cherry Orchard Road, which was heavily looted during the riots.

On Thursday, December 1, Roberto Prestoni and Tony Bannister presented cheques to the Mayor, Councillor Graham Bass and Roy Saunders:Presentation of Halloween double bill money to local charity Croydon Recovery

Thanks again to everyone who supported this production, and in particular to Scream Lounge in South End where we performed the show.

Something wicked this way comes… to the Charles Cryer.

Breakfast Cat are ridiculously excited to announce that we will be performing an innovative new production of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth at the Charles Cryer Theatre in Carshalton on 18th -21st April 2012.

London is on fire, the shops are stripped of loot and the streets are ruled by sinister figures with faces obscured by hoods. Weird sisters dealing in secretive substances lurk on street corners. But who wears the crown?

Get this in your diaries now. It will be a riot.

Auditions have taken place and we will all be meeting next week for a read though.

Here’s the poster for Macbeth designed by the brilliantly talented Tony Bannister.

Breakfast Cat Theatre – new website

Hello everyone!

This is the new website for Breakfast Cat Theatre, and as you can see it is currently under construction!

The Breakfast Cat Theatre Company are a South London collective who first wowed audiences in 2008 with Nightmare at the The Shoe Museum, a mainly improvised mime piece which saw shoe thieves stealing Hitler’s Flip Flops and scientists operating enlargerfiers, all to the live music of Ten Foot Nun. They returned in 2009 with the critically acclaimed No More Heroes, a play about the super villians of Croydon and their first big score (Original, daring, glamourous, bonkers, excellent, 4 Stars)*. Both these plays were put on at The Brief, Croydon. Later that year they presented a double bill of one act comedies at The Charles Cryer Studio Theatre, these being Ladies, This is War! and Vision Impaired (masterly timing, an amusing little gem)*. They are back at the Charles Cryer in February 2011 with that well loved World War II classic, The Long and the Short and the Tall.

We hope this website will be full of exciting and beautiful things very soon. In the meantime you can find more information about us in our Facebook group: http://www.facebook.com/groups/breakfastcat
